Yesterday, we got word that the actress had penned an essay on the pay gap between genders and then today, Variety broke the news that J-Law is in talks to star in Darren Aronofsky’s next project.
The film is an as-of-yet untitled indie project and Aronofsky hopes to begin shooting in the spring. With the Hunger Games and X-Men franchises coming to a close, Lawrence should have a bit more room in her schedule going forward, and this is our first indication of what she might fill it up with.
Famed for films like Black Swan, The Wrestler, and Requiem for a Dream, Aronofsky is one of the most respected directors in the business and to say that we’re excited to see what this collaboration might look like is a serious understatement. We’re also excited to see who might act beside Lawrence, as Aronofsky has reportedly reached out to other actors as well.
Unfortunately, we know next to nothing about who Lawrence will be playing or even what the project will be about. It’s also interesting to note that — in the essay we mentioned earlier — Lawrence chides herself for not having enough negotiating chutzpah and for failing to demand salaries on a par with her male co-stars.
Remember, she has yet to sign on the dotted line and Indie films tend to be on far tighter budgets than studio movies.
Hopefully, the two sides can iron something out and we’ll bring you the details as soon as they’re available.
Jennifer Lawrence is currently shooting Passengers (for which she earned more than her male co-star) and has both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (November 20, 2015) and Joy (December 25, 2015) in the pipeline.
