Accompanied by the simple statement “In memoriam,” Trevorrow posted a photo to Twitter depicting a statue of John Hammond, the character Attenborough played in the first two films in the Jurassic Park franchise. It’s safe to assume that the statue is from the set of the upcoming film, which unfolds 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park.
Attenbrough’s role in the early films was that of the park’s creator, the billionaire CEO of bioengineering company InGen, who brings the cast of characters to the island to verify it’s safety. As anyone who’s seen the 1993 film can attest, the park is anything but safe, and Hammond and the cast find themselves fighting to survive the “attractions.”
The new film unfolds years after the park was eventually reopened, and long after the novelty of living dinos has waned for guests. Attempts by the park’s new owners to drum up more excitement go awry (as they always tend to do), and a new cast of characters find themselves fighting for survival.
Jurassic World stars Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Judy Greer, and Lauren Lapkus. The film is scheduled to hit theaters June 12, 2015.
