Already assigned the working title of Lamborghini — The Legend, the biopic project was announced this week and is expected to film this summer in Italy and other locations around the world.
The rights to Lamborghini’s life story were optioned by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s AMBI Group, and the film is expected to draw inspiration from an unspecified biography about Lamborghini and input from the car creator’s son, Tonino.
“I am very proud to produce a film about an iconic man who had such a profound impact around the world, and left a legacy that lives on in such strong spirit.” said Iervolino in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Ferruccio Lamborghini was a pioneering businessman who brought honor to Italy and helped raise worldwide awareness for not just cars, but all products made in Italy. He started from scratch, relying only on his great passion and an unbridled desire to succeed in life — a desire he fulfilled.”
Originally a tractor manufacturer, Lamborghini first rose to prominence as a developer of agricultural equipment during the postwar period in Italy. He eventually created the automobile company Automobili Lamborghini in 1963, and the cars bearing his name went on to become some of the most celebrated exotic sports cars in the world. His innovation and success made him one of Italy’s wealthiest industrialists, and he eventually retired to pursue winemaking in the 1970s.

The film tells an extraordinary multi-layered story of a man who helped an entire nation (Italy) get back on its feet after the horrors of WWII, designing a car that revolutionized the global automotive industry and gave much needed luster to the country at a pivotal juncture.
In the announcement of the project, Bacardi described the film as a story “not only about cars, engines, and a remarkable career,” but also a story of Lamborghini’s “fascinating, but lesser-known private life and a beautiful love story that will be told though our movie.”
There’s no word on the writer or director for the film at this point, or a potential release date.
