It was basically a foregone conclusion, but Marvel Entertainment and Netflix made it official this week: Luke Cage will be back for a second season.

One of the most-watched original series on Netflix, and the recipient of extremely positive reviews from critics and general audiences, Luke Cage debuted September 30 on Netflix and was the third solo series to come out of Marvel’s partnership with the streaming video service. Although the announcement video that confirmed the series’ return didn’t reveal the exact date when star Mike Colter will return as the titular, steel-skinned superhero, it did offer a nice reminder that Pop’s Barber Shop — a central location in the Harlem-based show — is indeed staying open for business.

Along with Colter in the lead role, Luke Cage also starred Simone Missick (The Road to Sundance) as Misty Knight, who will return for the upcoming crossover miniseries The Defenders. That series will bring together many of the main characters and supporting cast from DaredevilJessica JonesLuke Cage, and the upcoming Iron Fist series.

The first season of Luke Cage also featured Emmy-nominated House of Cards actor Mahershala Ali as the first season’s villain, Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction) as police detective Rafael Scarfe, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, and Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek) as Mariah Dillard. Rosario Dawson, who appeared in both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, reprised her role as Claire Temple.

Cheo Hodari Coker (Notorious, NCIS: Los Angeles) served as the showrunner on the first season of the series and also penned the scripts for the first two episodes, but it’s unknown whether he’ll return for the second season.

The next series to debut in the shared universe of Marvel’s Netflix shows will be Iron Fist, which will be available March 17, 2017.

Netflix show You jets to London with a new cast for season 4
Penn Badgley in You.

Netflix's You has shown fans that it can marry off a serial killer, but it can't keep a bad man down for long. (Warning, spoilers ahead.) Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) was trapped in a marriage with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) a female serial killer who was even more bloodthirsty than he is. Even when they had a son together, Joe gravitated toward the more stable (and far less murderous) Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle). Ultimately, that meant Love had to die. But now Joe is a free man once more.

The new season of You will take place in London, as Joe pursues Marienne in a new country. Badgley and Gabrielle are the only cast members currently slated to return. Regardless, there's a new supporting cast this season. And we're willing to bet that more than a few will meet their end at the hands of Joe.

How to update your new Disney+ parental controls
The Defenders look at the camera in an elevator in The Defenders.

You may have heard that the Marvel TV shows that were formerly at home on Netflix have all come to Disney+ this week. There's just one hitch for the most family-friendly streaming service: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher are all TV-MA. And let's just say that they feature characters doing some very un-Disney-like things to each other. Sex and violence reach near R-rated levels, which is part of the appeal of these shows. That said, some parents may have legitimate concerns about what their children watch. Fortunately, we're here to help!

Disney foresaw some of these potential problems when it introduced its new Disney+ parental controls. It's also why Disney+ is automatically asking users to update their parental preferences when they log into the site. Keep in mind that the default setting is TV-14. If you don't opt to update any of your settings or if you click Not Now, then nothing will change. However, this is also your easiest opportunity to put the setting on TV-MA for everything that Disney+ has to offer. And make no mistake, these Marvel shows will probably not be the last mature content to be added in the future.

Marvel’s former Netflix shows are moving to Disney+ in March
The cast of The Defenders.

In 2015, Daredevil marked the beginning of a multiyear pact between Marvel TV and Netflix that brought it and five additional original series to the popular streamer. However, Netflix canceled all six shows in late 2018 and 2019 ahead of the launch of Disney's competing streaming service, Disney+. Last month, Netflix confirmed that its Marvel shows would leave at the beginning of March. Now, they have a new home on Disney+.

Disney, which owns Marvel, has officially announced that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders will make their Disney+ premiere on March 16 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The ABC-produced series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to Disney+ on the same day.
