Falcon thinks ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is Marvel’s best movie yet

Fans have to wait until May to see Captain America: Civil War, but they can rest assured that the upcoming superhero flick is going to be a good one. Actor Anthony Mackie, who plays the MCU’s Falcon, revealed in a BBC Radio 1 interview Friday that Civil War is “Marvel’s best movie thus far.”

While Mackie must be at least a little impartial due to his involvement in the studio’s films, he maintained that he would admit if a Marvel movie “sucked.” Fortunately, he offered a basis for comparison to go with his opinion: The actor named Captain America: Winter Soldier and the first Iron Man as Marvel’s two best films, not including Civil War. “I feel like this one beats both of those movies,” he said.

What makes Civil War so great, according to Mackie, is the fact that “it’s more of an acting movie than an action movie.” He described the story as “very concise and interesting” and went so far as to suggest that it could be the first superhero movie to be a contender for the Academy Award for Best Picture. That’s high praise, indeed.

Mackie highlighted the talent of the film’s ensemble cast. As he pointed out, Civil War is packed with star power, including Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13), Don Cheadle (War Machine), and more.

The movie will center on a division within the Avengers team after a plan emerges to register and regulate superheroes. Anthony and Joe Russo directed from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Fans will get a chance to determine whether Captain America: Civil War is as good as Mackie says when the film hits theaters on May 6.
