Marvel Comics Launches TV Department

The comic book resurgence continues. Fueled by the success of movies like the Iron Man and Spider-Man series , Marvel Entertainment has expanded its plans of total entertainment world domination, and is now setting its sights on television.

Marvel has hired comic book writer and television producer, Jeph Loeb, as Executive VP of the new television division. Marvel has tasked him with bringing its characters to TV, in both live-action and animation mediums. Loeb will also be in charge of direct-to-DVD projects, such as the recently released Planet Hulk. Marvel currently has a slew of movies in development, including Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers. More movies are planned, including a Spider-Man reboot, but no date has been set, other than sometime in 2012.

Loeb is known for his work as a writer and producer for Smallville, Heroes, and Lost, as well as several stints as a writer of numerous comics.

Don’t watch the awful Marvel film Madame Web. Watch this underrated movie instead

If you've already seen Madame Web this week, don't say that we didn't try to warn you. Even when the MCU has faltered, Marvel Studios' movies have been better than Sony's half-hearted Spider-Man-adjacent knockoffs. Now Madame Web gets to live on next to Morbius among the biggest comic book movie busts of all-time. Perhaps they should save a spot for Kraven the Hunter to join them this summer.

Look, if you really want to see a bad superhero movie like Madame Web in theaters, don't let us stop you. But if you want a better viewing option without leaving the comfort of your own home, we're suggesting that you watch an underrated superhero movie from 2003: Daredevil. While it's true that Daredevil was maligned at the time of its release, it sure looks a lot better in retrospect 21 years later, especially if you've seen Mark Steven Johnson's director's cut. Daredevil was also upstaged by Marvel's Daredevil TV series that premiered in 2015, which ranks among the all-time great comic book adaptations. But once you read our reasons why we're recommending the Daredevil movie, you may see the film in a different light.

Madame Web’s ending, explained

Sony and Marvel's latest Spider-Man spinoff, Madame Web, has finally swung into theaters. Set in the year 2003, Madame Web follows paramedic/clairvoyant Cassie Webb (Dakota Johnson) as she tries to protect three young women destined to become Spider-Women from being hunted down by the evil Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). Said Spider-Women include Julia Cornwall (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O'Connor), and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced).

Though it is only the fourth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, it has been received just as well as one would expect from the franchise at this point. Before this film even came out, fans knew it would be another misfire on par with Morbius, and things have turned out just as they were foretold. Nevertheless, it's clear that this story is meant to set up something big for the franchise. So now, let's break down what the movie and its ending mean for this cinematic universe.

Marvel Studios finally announces its Fantastic Four cast

It's been almost a decade since the last cinematic reboot of the Fantastic Four, and now Marvel Studios has announced which performers will be taking the four pivotal roles in the upcoming film based on the team of superheroes. Marvel dropped the news on Valentine's Day with a piece of artwork that revealed Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the Fantastic Four.

Pascal is best known for starring in both The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, as well as for his memorable role as Prince Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones season 4. He will portray Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four. Kirby will co-star as the Invisible Woman, Susan Storm, but it's unclear if Reed and Sue will be married in this incarnation. Kirby's previous credits include the last two Mission: Impossible films, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and Jupiter Ascending.
