Weddings can get wild, but a bizarre battle of the sexes might make the one in the upcoming 20th Century Fox comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates take the cake. A new trailer for the film shows mayhem ensuing when two brothers, played by Zac Efron and Adam DeVine, try to find “nice girls” to bring to their sister’s nuptials.
It may be a bro comedy, but Efron’s Dave and DeVine’s Mike get a run for their money when they end up with a pair of hard-partying girls as dates. Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) have their sights set on a free trip to Hawaii, so they’re willing to put on a good girl act to snag the opportunity. They’ll go to crazy lengths, including jumping out in front of a moving car, as we see in the trailer. However, unfortunately for the guys, the charade doesn’t seem to last long once they touch down on the islands.
As rambunctious as the boys were before their parents convinced them to tone it down for the wedding, the girls take it even further. From going through the hotel’s porn selection to pulling off extreme ATV stunts, Alice and Tatiana make it hard for the guys to stay out of trouble. At one point, we even see Mike and Dave blubbering after the ladies destroy them at bocce. “Who are these girls?” asks Mike later on.
The trailer promises plenty of entertainment value, from a clever X-rated play on The Godfather to a trampoline disaster. (If your parents told you that trampolines are dangerous when you were a kid, you’ll see that they were right.) Fans of Neighbors, also starring Efron, will enjoy the brand of humor, which comes from a script by the same writers, Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Jake Szymanski directed the flick, and it co-stars Stephen Root, Sugar Lyn Beard, and Sam Richardson.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is slated for release on July 8.
