Mixed up with a dash of Murray’s classic holiday film, Scrooged, A Very Murray Christmas follows the star as he attempts to put together a Christmas variety show at Manhattan’s Carlyle hotel. However, winter weather looks poised to interfere with his grand plans, and Murray fears that no one will be able to get there, leaving a holiday disaster on his hands.
Of course, no Christmas special would be complete without the love and support of others (not to mention singing and dancing), so Murray’s famous friends are sure to show up and keep his days merry and bright.
There will be at least one naysayer along the way, though, based on the new trailer. When the show seems to be falling apart, Michael Cera tells Murray, “This sad excuse for a Christmas special is starting to seem to me more like a Christ-mess, as in what a mess.” (Get it? It’s a play on words!) Luckily, there’s a trump card. “We have George Clooney,” retorts Murray.
The special actually has a lot more than just Clooney. Among its stars are Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Jason Schwartzman, Maya Rudolph, Rashida Jones, and more. The band Phoenix will also be there, presumably to throw down some tunes. It’s a group well worth spending some quality holiday time with, especially to escape the chaos of Christmas shopping.
The show is directed by Sofia Coppola, who wrote it with Murray and Mitch Glazer. The trio also executive produce, along with Roman Coppola and Tony Hernandez.
A Very Murray Christmas will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on December 4.
