The series, which is narrated by Snicket, tells the tale of the orphaned Beaudelaire siblings: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. After their parents die, the children are sent to live with a distant relative, Count Olaf, who is far from a charitable man. In fact, the siblings discover that the count intends to steal their family fortune, and the series follows their efforts to block his many tricks and schemes as well as discover the truth about their parents’ death.
Harris has been cast as Olaf, according to another Deadline report, while Warburton will play Snicket. Meanwhile, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes are set to play Violet and Klaus, respectively. A Paramount TV-produced project, A Series of Unfortunate Events will be directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
Warburton previously worked with Sonnenfeld on The Tick, a Fox sitcom that aired in 2001. (Warburton filled the title role, while Sonnenfeld was an executive producer.) Although the series was short-lived, Amazon has given a revival a pilot order, with Warburton expected to executive produce.
In addition to The Tick, Warburton is also known for voicing police officer Joe Swanson on Family Guy and Rules of Engagement‘s Jeff Bingham. Harris starred for nine seasons as Barney Stinson, a legen- (wait for it) -dary womanizer, on the comedy How I Met Your Mother. He also hosted the variety show Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris and is an Emmy winner.
A Series of Unfortunate Events is expected to begin filming in Vancouver this month.
