Hannibal Buress, Jimmy Carr, Patton Oswalt comedy specials coming to Netflix

Netflix has confirmed premiere dates for a slate of early 2016 original stand-up comedy specials scheduled for the streaming site with a global release.

Ideal for weekend viewing, each of the four new specials will be available starting on a Friday, with each comic bringing his own unique style to the stage and streaming site.

Hannibal Buress, the comedian known best for his viral routine regarding the many rape allegations against Bill Cosby, will host his Comedy Camisado, which will be available starting Friday, February 5. Buress has found plenty of success over the past few years, including a sold-out national theater stand-up tour which he just completed, a TV series, and a successful run on Broad City. His comedy is described as “sharp observational.” The special will see him present his comedy stylings to a packed audience at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. For those who don’t know, a “camisado” is a military term meaning “surprise attack,” and is carried out when the enemy is sleeping. Wake up, everyone!

On Friday, February 26, Netflix will feature No Offense by Theo Von. Not afraid to offend, the Louisiana native will host his first comedy special for the streaming site at the Civic Theater in New Orleans.

Jimmy Carr’s Funny Business will premiere on Friday, March 18, a day after St. Patrick’s Day. He holds the coveted honor of being the first British comedian to make an original stand-up special for Netflix. Performing at the U.K.’s Hammersmith Apollo, he’ll bring his notable one-liners to viewers as he performs to a sold-out audience.

Known best for acting gigs like playing Spencer on long-running early ’00s sitcom The King of Queens and voicing the character of Remy in Ratatouille, Patton Oswalt’s Talking for Clapping will premiere on Netflix on Friday, April 22. The hour-long special featuring new stand-up material will cover “everything from misery to defeat to hopelessness,” says Netflix, also jokingly noting that it’s his “most upbeat special to date.”

Netflix has been ramping up its game on the comedy side of late, particularly in stand-up. Aziz Ansari’s comedy special Aziz Ansari: Live at Madison Square Garden, debuted last March, while the comedian’s Netflix original series Master of None continues to pick up nominations and awards, including a Critic’s Choice Award this past weekend for Best Comedy Series. Mr. Show, a reboot of the popular HBO sketch comedy show from the ‘90s starring Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, launched last November. And Chelsea Handler’s upcoming comedy talk show is set to debut on the site some time this year, along with her four-episode documentary that will debut this Saturday, January 23.
