The film’s latest spot made its debut at Comic-Con International in San Diego over the weekend, and it dives deep into the trippy, time-and-space-bending occult powers that its eponymous hero possesses, while revealing more of the character’s backstory.
You can watch the entire trailer above, which is chock-full of new footage. As you might have expected, the known laws of physics are violated frequently and beautifully (see: New York City folding up like oragami), but there are a few other interesting takeaways. We get to see (and hear) more of Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous Kaecilius this time around, we get a closer look at the relationship between Strange and the mysterious Ancient One, and the trailer ends with a very clever joke. Apparently, even folks with mystical powers still have use for the magic of the internet — they’re not savages, after all.
The spot runs about 2:21, making it a bit longer and meatier than the first official trailer, which debuted in April. As per ScreenCrush, a new poster (below) and a short clip from the film also debuted at Comic-Con. In the new footage, Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meets Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One for the first time.
