If you’re a fan of Orphan Black (or want to be), and don’t have plans tonight (don’t worry, we won’t tell), Amazon Instant Video is offering the perfect way to spend a cozy Friday evening at home: starting at 12:01 a.m. (PST) this morning and running through midnight, you can watch the first season of the popular BBC drama for free on Amazon Instant Video. That goes for anyone, not just existing Prime members.
Subscribers can log on via the TV app, mobile devices, or on Amazon’s site. The show stars Tatiana Maslany as Sarah, an orphan who witnesses the suicide of a woman who has an uncanny resemblance to her, decides to take on her identity, and realizes they are…well if you don’t know the story yet, we’re not going to ruin it for you.
Suffice it to say that there is a lot of intrigue, plenty of rabbit holes to fall into, and brilliant performances that make this series one of the best shows you haven’t seen.

Of course, once you’re hooked after those first 10 episodes, Amazon Instant Video also offers the second season of the popular BBC America drama for free as well, but only for Prime members, so you’ll have to officially sign up. Want to keep the binge-fest going all weekend? Season three will commence with its first new episode on BBC America and its sister networks, which include AMC, IFC, Sundance TV, and WE TV, at 9 p.m. (EST).
Those networks also happen to be available for those who’ve signed up for Sling TV, so you won’t need a cable subscription. But, sorry, you’ll still have to wait a week for episode two. (Darn you, linear TV!)
Michael Paull, Vice President of Digital Video at Amazon, says Orphan Black has been “extremely popular” with its subscribers since the series became available. This offering won’t only entice users to jump aboard Amazon Instant Video, but it’s a little taste that will leave viewers wanting more.
This is the second time Amazon has offered a show’s season for free streaming to non-Prime members, including a similar offer for the Amazon original series Transparent, for which the service saw an incredible response, says Paull. “We’re giving customers an opportunity to try out another great series that Prime members already love.”
Orphan Black was co-created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director, and starsTatiana Maslany, as well as Dylan Bruce, Jordan Garvis, Kevin Hanchard, and Skyler Wexler. It was produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media’s SPACE.
Amazon Instant Video is available to all Amazon Prime members. A Prime membership is $99/year, and also includes access to Prime Music, unlimited tow-day shipping on many items, early access to select deals, unlimited photo storage, and access to digital books.
