Ridley Scott says Blade Runner sequel might follow his next project

You’re not alone if you plan to wait until you’re sitting in a theater watching the Blade Runner sequel before you actually believe the film is going to happen. Director Ridley Scott seems a bit more certain that cameras will begin rolling on the film at some point, though, and it could be next in the queue after his 2015 film, The Martian.

Speaking with EW, Scott said the script for the Blade Runner sequel penned by Hampton Fancher (who wrote the original film’s screenplay) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) is finished and “it’s damn good.”

While Harrison Ford has yet to officially commit to the project, Scott seemed certain that he’ll have the veteran actor reprise his role as Rick Deckard, a police officer tasked with eliminating android “replicants” hiding among the human population.

“Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years—despite the accident,” added Scott, alluding to the actor’s mishap on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. “So yes, that will happen.”

As for when the cameras will actually begin rolling, Scott indicated that the Blade Runner sequel will likely go into production after The Martian, his upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Matt Damon. That film is currently scheduled to hit theaters November 25, 2015.

“Probably after [The Martian],” said Scott when asked about where the Blade Runner sequel currently fits in his schedule with other films like the sequel to Prometheus also in the works.

“That’s the problem,” he added. “I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written.”
