Ronda Rousey biopic will star none other than the UFC champion herself

Fresh off capturing the first UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship title Saturday, Ronda Rousey is already moving forward in other areas of her career. The mixed martial arts fighter is set to play herself in an upcoming biopic based on her autobiography, My Fight/Your Fight, which she wrote with her sister, Maria Burns Ortiz. Paramount Pictures has recently secured the rights to the project, according to Variety.

Through the film, we’ll see Rousey’s inspirational road to success as she overcomes obstacles and makes a name for herself. Her new championship title unfortunately comes after the period the script is meant to be based on, but we’re curious to see if it’ll be integrated into the film anyway. The training and tension leading up to her 34-second knockout victory over rival Bethe Correia would make for good action and drama. Of course, she did win an Olympic medal in Judo in 2008, so there won’t be a shortage of glory either way.

Rousey’s biopic is currently being adapted by Mark Bomback, who will serve alongside the fighter as executive producer. Mary Parent, who will produce, told Variety “It’s a real honor to be a part of bringing Ronda’s incredible story to the bigscreen.”

The biopic will not be Rousey’s first acting role, or even her first time playing herself. She previously had a cameo in the Entourage movie and has also had roles in big budget action flicks like The Expendables 3 and Furious 7. Coming up, she’s slated to film Mile 22 in January and is also reportedly attached to The Athena Project, a Warner Bros. action movie.

Paramount Pictures has yet to announce a timeline for when we should expect the biopic to enter production.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
