With Robert Downey Jr. busy doing Avengers films seemingly for the rest of his natural life, there has been speculation that the Sherlock Holmes franchise would fall by the wayside — but it seems that game is still very much afoot.

A little less than a month after Robert Downey Jr. suggested that Sherlock Holmes 3 could happen “this year,” producer Joel Silver took it one step further and revealed that it could very well film this fall. Here’s what he told Collider on Thursday:

“It looks like it could happen this fall. Downey said he wants to do it. He’s gotta launch into another Avengers movie, right after the New Year, so we’re trying to get it done. We have a script that we like. Jude [Law] is available and Downey is available, and we’re hoping we can get it done. If it works, great. If not, we’ll do it another time. But, it looks like it could happen now.”

It looks like there’s a possibility they could squeeze this sucker in during the small window when Downey Jr. isn’t busy Iron Man-ing. As if that weren’t enough to excite fans of the franchise, Silver also suggested that several sequels could be in the offing:

“I hope [it’s not the last one]. I don’t think so. How many Bond films have they made? As long as there’s a character, we can work with it. It’s not an end story. We can keep going, as long as people want to do it. It’s [the actor’s] call. They have to say, ‘Okay, I’m ready to go.’ I read about them making another Bad Boys. If they want to do it, then you try to get it done.”

In actuality, there have been far fewer Bonds than there have been Sherlocks and Silver is spot on in suggesting that the franchise could continue well into the future. Interestingly enough, Downey Jr. probably isn’t even the most popular Holmes of his era, as Benedict Cumberbatch’s cold, calculating portrayal of the iconic detective has been celebrated as among the best of all time.

Either way, we’d love to see him don the deerstalker cap for a third installment of this series. Stay tuned and we’ll update you as more information becomes available.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
