The new Starz series is a continuation of Raimi’s beloved cult franchise, Evil Dead. Not only is it created by Sam Raimi, the genius behind the over-the-top, gory films, it also brings back Bruce Campbell, the star of the original trilogy, to reprise his role as Ash Williams. It’s a winning combination that Starz is extremely confident about — so confident, in fact, that the network renewed the show for season 2 before the premiere even aired.
At the time of the renewal, Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik shared in a statement that it was clear that one season wouldn’t be enough. “The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can’t end with season one,” he said.
With one episode having aired, it seems that Zlotnik and Starz were right. Not surpisingly, Ash vs. Evil Dead is getting plenty of positive buzz, including from Facebook users who watched the episode on the social media site and can’t seem to contain their enthusiasm. In addition to the mountain of excited comments, users have liked the post over 17,700 times and shared it over 17,900 times (at the time of publishing).
The first season of Ash vs. Evil Dead will run for ten episodes, picking up about three decades after the events of Army of Darkness, the final installment in the original trilogy. Though long retired, Ash will find himself again battling the demonic forces that have followed him since the first Evil Dead installment. Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, Jill Marie Jones, and Dana Delorenzo also star.
Ash vs. Evil Dead airs on Starz on Saturdays at 9/8 c.
