In the wake of news that 20th Century Fox had broken the global box-office record with its 2014 movie revenue, the studio announced new release dates for several of its upcoming films — including the delayed Assassin’s Creed movie and the Gambit solo movie featuring Channing Tatum as the popular X-Men character.

After being removed from the studio calendar back in September, Assassin’s Creed will now hit theaters December 21, 2016. The film is still set to star Michael Fassbender, who’s also producing the project, and will be directed by Fassbender’s director on Macbeth, Justin Kurzel. Assassin’s Creed was originally scheduled to hit theaters this summer, but was reportedly delayed due to scheduling issues with Fassbender and the need for script revisions.

The Gambit movie also received an official release date, with the X-Men spinoff now targeting a premiere on October 7, 2016. Tatum is attached to play the energy-manipulating Cajun thief, with production on the film expected to begin soon.

Fox also announced new release dates for the still-untitled sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 14, 2017) and a potential sequel to The Fantastic Four reboot (June 2, 2017).

The best Rocky and Creed movies, ranked
Rocky gets ready to throw a punch in Rocky.

In 1975, a little-known actor named Sylvester Stallone (Tulsa King) watched boxer Chuck Wepner take the legendary Muhammad Ali to the 15th round of a heavyweight championship match. Wepner lost, but the underdog made a lasting impression on Stallone. Legend has it that Stallone went home and wrote the first draft to Rocky, which he finished three days later. One year later, Rocky became the highest-grossing film of 1976 and won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Nearly 50 years later, Rocky is one of the most successful franchises ever. The franchise is known for its underdog mentality, motivational training montages, and riveting boxing matches. With the addition of Michael B. Jordan (Without Remorse) and the Creed films, the Rocky franchise has inspired a new generation of fans looking for an unlikely hero. With Creed III in theaters, I had the Wepner-like task of ranking the Rocky and Creedmovies from worst to best. Keep reading to see which film took the top spot.

Michael B. Jordan faces new challenge as a director in behind-the-scenes look at Creed III
Michael B. Jordan sits on a stool in a boxing ring in Creed III.

For Creed III, Michael B. Jordan wanted a new challenge not only in the ring but outside of it as well. Jordan will make his feature directorial debut on Creed III and reprise his role as Adonis "Donnie" Creed for the third time. The Creed franchise emphasizes the fight outside the ring is more important than the one within, and Jordan will look to keep that spirit alive in the third film.

Best Viking movies and TV shows like The Northman
Alexander Skarsgård strikes a fearsome Viking pose.

Robert Eggers' The Northman is a tense, thrilling, and brutal historical epic that showcases the director's best impulses. The film is part of a larger renaissance of interest in the historical Scandinavian people commonly known today as Vikings. From television shows like the aptly named Vikings to movies like The Northman and even video games like Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and God of War, mainstream audiences can't get enough of the Vikings.

The Northman offers a vicious and unforgiving take on the Vikings. Indeed, the common perception is that they were ruthless and barbaric raiders and pirates, beliefs showcased in most of their on-screen portrayals. And while not every Viking-centric film or TV show is as raw as The Northman, most take a similar approach to their larger-than-life Norsemen, who have become an almost mythical part of pop culture.
