Sylvester Stallone returns as a superhero in Samaritan trailer

Sylvester Stallone is one of the greatest action stars of all time. From Rocky Balboa to John Rambo, Stallone has played some of the most recognizable characters of the last 50 years. Now, Stallone is facing a new challenge as a former superhero in Samaritan.

Stallone plays Joe Smith, an older man who collects garbage for a living in Granite City. However, Smith lives with the secret that he once used to be the superhero known as Samaritan. The superhero was thought to be dead for the last 25 years after an epic battle, but instead, it sent Samaritan in hiding. A young boy named Sam starts to question if Smith is truly Samaritan after the former hero saves him from an attack. With rising crime and the city in peril, Sam attempts to coax Samaritan out of hiding to save the city from destruction.

Starring alongside Stallone as Sam is Javon Walton, one of the breakout stars from the hit show Euphoria. Pilou Asbæk plays Cyrus, a crime lord looking to take over the city. Dascha Polanco, Moises Arias, Martin Starr, Natacha Karam, and Jared Odrick form the rest of the ensemble.

Samaritan - Official Trailer | Prime Video

Samaritan is directed by Julius Avery, the director behind 2018’s Overlord. The film is a co-production of MGM and Stallone’s company, Balboa Productions. Samaritan is billed as a darker take on the superhero genre. The story is based on the Mythos Comics graphic novels from Marc Olivent, Renzo Podesta, and Bragi F. Schut, with the latter serving as the screenwriter as well.

Samaritan launches globally August 26 on Prime Video.

Lord of the Rings series drops stunning trailer at Comic-Con
Galadriel putting a helmet on top of a pile in a scene from Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power.

Ever since Amazon bought the television rights to The Lord of the Rings in 2017, the upcoming series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been the equivalent of a sleeping giant. The massive show is coming soon, but many details around the plot and footage have been scarce, to say the least. That was the case until now, as Prime Video just released a stunning trailer at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con.

The three-minute trailer is the longest look at the series to date as Amazon had only released teaser trailers up until this point. The footage includes jaw-dropping visuals of Middle-earth to go along with familiar creatures from the film series such as elves, orcs, and dwarves. Based on the works of  J. R. R. Tolkien, The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the events in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The series covers significant events in Middle-earth during the Second Age, which includes the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron and the forging of the Rings of Power.

Sylvester Stallone is “new in town” in first look at Tulsa King
Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King.

In his five-decade career in Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone has never headlined his own drama series until now. Paramount+'s new crime drama, Tulsa King, has a lot going for it besides Stallone. But we all know who the real draw is. And if the first teaser trailer for the show is any indication, it seems to recapture some of the old spirit from The Sopranos.

In this show, Stallone is portraying Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a former mafia crime boss who knows how to keep his mouth shut. What he doesn't know is how to adapt to living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And he isn't there by choice. Dwight's crime family has essentially sent him into exile following his long stint in prison. But as you can see in the trailer, that doesn't stop Dwight from revisiting the skills that made him into the man he is today. There are also some lighter comedic moments in the teaser, which appear to illustrate that the show won't be completely dark.

The Kids in the Hall return in new trailer for the revival
The cast of The Kids in the Hall.

From 1988 to 1995, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson headlined the comedy sketch series The Kids in the Hall. To close out their five-season run on television, the "Kids" were all buried alive in the final episode. That's why it's fitting that the first trailer for Prime Video's revival picks up where The Kids in the Hall left off.

Naturally, the guys are somewhat disappointed that they've aged 27 years since the last episode. Regardless, they don't let that get in the way of revisiting a few characters from the original series. For example, Mr. Tyzik/Headcrusher is back to destroy a monument during a police standoff. And the Eradicator is also back to "eradicate."
