Apparently the 17th Century was a much more technologically sophisticated time than we originally thought, at least according to the upcoming 3D action film, The Three Musketeers.
The film is, of course, loosely based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, which is set during the 17th Century in France. The upcoming adaptation takes a few liberties with the original plot, which pitted the legendary swordsmen, The Three Musketeers and the young D’Artagnan, against the plotting of Cardinal Richelieu, who planned to reveal the Queen’s infidelity. The new story, however, seems much more ‘splosion friendly.
When a young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) heads to town to join the Musketeers, shenanigans ensue. Soon a plot to lead Europe into war begins to unfold, and D’Artagnan along with the musketeers Athos (Matthew Macfayden), Porthos (Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (Luke Evans) take up swords. And cannons. And flamethrowers. And hot air war balloons. Despite hot air balloons being a century away from being discovered. Eh, details.
The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (the Resident Evil series, Death Race), also stars Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz. It is set to hit theaters on October 14.
