A new, international trailer for Tomorrowland debuted online this week, and the brief preview of the film is surprisingly packed with scenes that didn’t appear in any of the previous teasers for the film. More importantly, however, is that the new scenes provide quite a bit of context for the film and its fantastic sci-fi premise.
While we won’t go into too much detail about what happens in the trailer (so as to avoid spoilers for those who want to preserve the mystery), the footage does hint that the film will be somewhat self-aware, with the Disney theme parks — and specifically, the “Tomorrowland” attraction that inspired the film — playing a role in the story. The trailer even features a mention of Walt Disney himself.
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Brad Bird (Ratatouille, The Incredibles), Tomorrowland stars Britt Robertson as a brilliant teenager who’s given a pin that transports her to a strange place where jetpacks and all manner of futuristic, sci-fi technology is a reality. After meeting with former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney), she gets caught up in a dangerous mission to save the world using the secrets of an enigmatic place located somewhere between time and space.
The film’s script was penned by Bird and Lost co-creator/writer Damon Lindelof (who also co-wrote the screenplays for Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness), and along with Robertson and Clooney, the cast includes Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, as well as Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Thomas Robinson.
Tomorrowland hits theaters May 22, 2015.
