Though it might not feature Snoop Dogg as many had hoped, the new version of the extremely popular 10-year-old show should still garner a massive amount of love from fans around the globe. Planet Earth II will come to the public in six hour-long parts, and will begin airing later this year.
The subject matter of the six new episodes of Planet Earth II will center on the same themes touched on in its decade-old counterpart, exploring Earth’s wide variety of habitats and the ways that creatures survive in them. That said, the main reason the series caught on when it first was released in 2006 was because of just how beautiful it was — the HD nature shots from Planet Earth are still some of the prettiest ever filmed.
For viewers who watched the original series for the sheer beauty of it, there is a lot to be excited about with Planet Earth II. The new series was shot in 4K Ultra HD, and should provide some of the prettiest nature footage ever made public.
“The epic scale and ambition of this series is second to none,” said executive producer Mike Gunton of the project, “It will be a truly immersive experience, providing audiences with a unique perspective on the most extraordinary places and animals on our planet.”
Attenborough, now 89, shared his excitement about working on the new show in a recent interview with the Guardian, saying, “I am very excited to once again be working with the Natural History Unit on its latest landmark series and am especially looking forward to getting out on location in the next month or so.”
