Confirmation arrived last week that the long-awaited, live-action Uncharted movie will finally begin production next year, and now the film has a release date, too.

Columbia Pictures has announced that Uncharted will arrive in theaters June 10, 2016, one of the summer’s prime release dates that year. This could certainly be seen as an early vote of confidence in the film, though cameras have yet to begin rolling.

“June 10 is a great date for Uncharted,” said Doug Belgrad, President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It’s just the right place for this exciting action-adventure film.”

It’s worth noting that the date chosen for Uncharted was previously reserved for another Columbia Pictures film, The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which was recently pushed back to 2018.

While the film based on the hit Naughty Dog game franchise now has a director in Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), a script currently receiving another draft by David Guggenheim (Safe House), and a release date, it has yet to find a leading man for the role of treasure hunter Nathan Drake.

Still, with Comic-Con International underway in San Diego, there’s always the chance that Columbia Pictures could be planning some big announcements for this project over the weekend.

If you have to watch one Hulu movie in June 2024, stream this one
Glen Hansard in Once.

When you think of movies on Hulu, it's easy to get swept up in the big franchise flicks. After all, how often are films like The Batman going to cross over from Warner Bros. to a Disney-owned platform? And compared to the sparse selection of films on Disney+, Hulu has a refreshingly large and diverse lineup of flicks to choose from. But if you can watch only one Hulu movie in June, then the film you should stream is Once.

Once is a romantic drama and a musical written and directed by John Carney on a shoestring budget. However, the story of the film was so irresistible that Once was one of the top indie hits of 2007 and an Oscar winner for Best Original Song. Most importantly, it's a love story that plays like a real story. And it doesn't necessarily go to the places where most romances tread.

10 best historical movies ever, ranked
Russell Crowe in period clothing on a boat in Master and Commander: Far Side of the World.

History might not be everyone's favorite subject; in fact, many probably hated it back in school. However, a good historical movie can make history seem fascinating and enthralling. Unlike period pieces, which are set in the past, but usually tell fictional stories, historical movies are retellings of famous events in world history through a cinematic lens.

A great historical movie is the perfect marriage between reality and fiction, offering a compelling narrative set within a distinctive historical background. Sure, they might not exactly be accurate because fiction still needs to be entertaining. However, these movies are still enthralling and outright stunning visual spectacles that, quite literally, make history come alive. From classics set in the distant past to more modern takes on 20th-century events, these are the best historical movies in cinematic history.
