Earlier this month, we took a look at the most anticipated movies of fall 2023. But now, it’s time to look ahead at all of the upcoming movies set for release in late 2023 and early 2024.
As you may have heard, the word out of Hollywood is that the WGA and the AMPTP have reached a tentative deal to end the writers’ strike. Presumably ending the SAG-AFTRA strike will be the next thing on the agenda. This is important to keep in mind for the upcoming movies because all films and TV shows have been at a standstill for months, and the 2024 release dates are tentative at best. That’s one of the reasons why the 2024 schedule looks so empty at the moment. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done by both the writers and the actors before a lot of these movies are going to be ready, so don’t be too shocked if the release dates change again. Some of them could even slip into 2025.
For now, let’s just celebrate the potential end of labor strife in Hollywood and start making plans for our movie nights this year and beyond.
The media spotlight typically falls on Netflix when covering steamers. It makes sense as Netflix is very popular worldwide, with such buzz-worthy shows like Bridgerton, Sweet Tooth, and The Diplomat as well as movies like Atlas, Under Paris, and Hit Man. But would you be surprised to know that one of the most underrated streaming services around is Tubi?
Yes, that's right, Tubi, home to classics, hidden gems, and schlock alike. The overlooked streamer has plenty of new content available to stream from every decade and genre imaginable. Tubi has so much content that it can be hard to choose which shows and films are worth your time, but Digital Trends is here to help you sort out which ones are worth watching. Even though the streaming service is free, time is valuable, and no one wants to waste it watching stinky movies.
Jordan Peele shares release date for his next movie
Jordan Peele has revealed the release date for his next movie. On X (formerly Twitter), Peele tweeted a picture with the date "10-23-26," which is when his upcoming directorial effort will debut.
No plot details have been revealed. It will be released by Universal, which signed Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions to a first-look deal in May 2017. It was originally scheduled for a December 25, 2024, release. However, Universal pulled the film from its release calendar because of the Hollywood work stoppages in 2023.
3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.
The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
