Want to hear Radiohead’s ‘triumphant’ new album? Here’s where to find it

All of the music world’s ears are focused keenly on super-secretive British rockers Radiohead today, after the group officially released their ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool, on Sunday evening in the U.K.

Those who pre-ordered vinyl copies of the much-anticipated record will have to wait until mid-June to get their hard copy — or until September for the double LP special edition — but anyone with an internet connection can hear the band’s new music right this second.

As long as you aren’t an exclusive user of Spotify, Google Play, or SoundCloud, that is.

The new album, which Rolling Stone took less than 12 hours to call a “haunting, stunning triumph,” can be purchased in MP3 and Wav formats through the group’s own website, as well as iTunes, and is streamable on several major services. Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon subscribers were all given access to the record immediately, but Spotify, SoundCloud, and Google Play have yet to receive the record.

Spotify users were initially hopeful about getting the band’s new album, after the first two singles were released on the service last week. But the Swedish streamer has been criticized by frontman Thom Yorke in recent years, and was likely purposefully left out of the full release because of the band’s negative feelings about it.

Speaking of wrath, Google Play may have actually wrecked its own chances of getting the record. Some Reddit users reported that A Moon Shaped Pool was streaming on the service in full an hour before it was set to be officially released, leading to speculation that the band decided to pull it from Google permanently due to the presumed snafu.

A beautifully recorded album that showcases the band’s serious ability in a studio environment, we recommend listening to the new songs in as high quality as you can, on the nicest sound system you can get your hands on.

How to download music and podcasts from Spotify: The downloads folder.

If you're a Spotify Premium user paying that premium Spotify fee, chances are you've taken at least some time curating playlists, liking songs, and using the platform's easy-to-use (and recently revamped) user interface to discover new and old music.

But sometimes all that music or your favorite podcasts aren't available if you find yourself without an internet connection to stream them from — like on a long plane ride or weekend camping trip in the sticks. That's where Spotify's offline listening feature comes in handy, allowing you to download playlists, albums, and podcasts through its desktop and mobile apps so you can still rock out while you're off the grid.

How to switch from Spotify to Apple Music
Spotify and Apple Music transfer on a smartphone.

Spotify is the world's most popular music streaming service for a reason. It has a massive catalog of music and podcasts, is full of cool music discovery and sharing features, and is really easy to use.
However, with its recent price increase and the fact that it still hasn't joined most of its peers in offering a hi-res audio quality option, you may be considering jumping ship for its closest competitor, Apple Music, which counts lossless hi-res tracks, mind-bending spatial audio, Dolby Atmos Music tracks, and a catalog that rivals Spotify's among the many attractive reasons to switch.

But there's one problem: you’ve spent a lot of time creating playlists and marking songs and albums as your favorites in Spotify. Is it worth the switch? Will all that hard work be lost in translation?
