In June of this year, shortly before the launch of Apple Music, Sonos announced that the new kid on the streaming services block would be coming to its audio systems, but it wouldn’t be at launch. The company didn’t offer a date at the time, but said that it would arrive before the end of the year.

It turns out that the statement was correct, but only barely. Last month the company announced that Apple Music would arrive for Sonos owners on December 15, but there was a catch: This wouldn’t be the official launch of the service on the system, but a public beta.

As promised, the beta is now live for anyone interested in participating. The instructions from the beta sign up page on how to enter the beta are as follows:

  1. Open the Sonos app
  2. Tap “Settings” then “Advanced Settings”
  3. Tap “Beta Program”
  4. Tap “Join the Beta Program”
  5. Update your Sonos system
  6. Add Apple Music from the “Add Music Services” menu

“Just know one thing — the beta isn’t the final product,” the signup page reads. “But it’s a really good preview, with most of the features already in place. We’ll be making some small adjustments throughout the beta period, so be prepared for slight changes and improvements.”

If you aren’t comfortable with beta software or simply don’t mind waiting, the company says that the final version of the software will be ready in early 2016. No specific launch date has been given, but if the beta’s launch is any indication, Sonos will likely stick to its word.

While plenty of people have gone back to Spotify or another service after trying the free trial of Apple Music, there is a lot to like about the service, especially if you’re a Taylor Swift fan. If the Sonos beta has you wanting to hop back on board the Apple Music train, we’ve gathered a few tips and tricks to help you make the most of the service.

Sonos CEO Patrick Spence today said that his company is still on track to unveil a new product in a new category sometime between April and the end of June. He made the announcement at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference.

"What we said at our last earnings call in February is that it will be in our fiscal [third quarter]," Spence said. "And we have no update on that. It continues to be fiscal Q3 from where we are."

Apple Music just got a cool feature you won’t find on Spotify

The Apple Music Replay feature gives you a rundown of which songs and albums you've listened to on the service every year. But now, it's getting a makeover that will make it more handy. Rundowns are being offered every month, allowing you to see your favorite tunes during the past 30-plus days — as well as how often you've listened to those titles.

The new monthly Apple Music Replay feature is only available through the web on the Apple Music Replay website, which is unfortunate, but unsurprising. The annual Apple Music Replay launches every December and is also a web-only feature.

Sonos says new product (probably headphones) coming by fall

Sonos said today in its earnings call for the first quarter of its 2024 fiscal year that it will announce — and ship — a new product in a new category in the third quarter. While CEO Patrick Spence didn't shed anymore light as to what the new product will be, it's widely expected to be headphones.

Sonos' fiscal third quarter spans April through June. (A previous version of this story said July through September. We regret the error.) The company previously said the new product would land in the second (fiscal) half of the year, and today's announcement tightens that window to late summer.
