Used to be if you wanted to play music at a big party, you’d hire a DJ. Then came the iPod, and all you had to do was hook it to speakers, make a playlist, and set it to shuffle. But that also meant buying an expensive device. Nowadays, you don’t even have to do that. Streaming is the thing, and every possible Halloween-themed song you could possibly want is readily available at a variety of streaming services. Let’s look at a few of the most popular ones.

Scaring Trick or Treaters includes Iconic Horror Movie Scores, Something Terrible Is About To Happen, and Spooky Halloween Sound FX. Finally, Day Of The Dead features Melancholy Jangle, Rock Calaverita (Spanish) and Catrina Pop.

This Halloween Standards playlist has everything. Just open up Spotify and you’ll see it. Lots of tried and true Halloween classics like Monster Mash by Bobby “Boris” Pickett, Ghostbusters by Ray Parker, Jr, Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group, and the classic Werewolves of London by the late great Warren Zevon. There are a few stretches on this one, though. Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, I’m Your Boogie Man by K.C. & The Sunshine Gang, and Evil Woman by ELO just don’t seem to fit, despite titles that might suggest a match. So maybe edit this one down to the best of the bunch. Spotify also offers a Trick or Treat playlist.

Spotify ramps up podcast discovery with ‘Your Daily Podcasts’ playlist

It's no secret that Spotify has gone all in on podcasts. After making many investments in the medium from both a licensing and production point of view, it's now getting serious about helping its listeners discover more of the podcasts that are on the streaming service. Launching Tuesday, November 19, Your Daily Podcasts is a personalized playlist that attempts to introduce you to new podcasts based on your previous listening activity.

Your Daily Podcasts works on both free and premium Spotify accounts, but if you've never listened to any podcasts on Spotify, the playlist may not appear in the app. Emily Rawitsch, Spotify's director of product design in the company's personalization group, told Digital Trends that in order for the algorithm to create a personalized podcast playlist, a user needs to have listened to at least four podcasts in the past 90 days.

Spotify takes the pain out of road trip playlists with Soundtrack Your Ride

Spotify and playlists go together like chocolate and peanut butter (or whatever awesome combo doesn't trigger your allergies), but it's not always easy finding just the right playlist for a particular event. Take the classic Thanksgiving road trip: Depending on where you and your family members live, you could be looking at anywhere from one hour to 48 hours of highway haulin'. Do you really want to painstakingly assemble that much music? Of course you don't. So Spotify has created a new tool called Soundtrack Your Ride, which will create a custom playlist of virtually any length, based on your road trip parameters.

The tool, which works for both Premium and free Spotify tiers, takes the form of a quiz. First, you enter your location and your destination on a giant map of the U.S. Unfortunately for family living in Canada, you can't enter Canadian locations even though they're quite prominently displayed on the map itself. You'll just have to listen to the CBC until you're south of the border.

Nest Hello adds spooky chimes to greet trick-or-treaters this Halloween

Standing out from your neighbors can sometimes be a struggle during the holidays, but now there's an unusual idea that can put you in the spotlight this Halloween. Look no further than your smart doorbell. It can make yours one of the spookiest, and most memorable, houses on the block during trick-or-treating.

Recently, Ring Video Doorbell added an Addams Family signature chime tone to its system, and now Nest Hello users will get some fun Halloween sounds for their doorbell, too. Starting Monday, October 21, you can change the tone of your doorbell to the sounds of a cackling witch, vampire, monster or a ghost to surprise guests, or to crank up the spooky mood on Halloween night. The sounds will also play on Google Nest speakers or displays with Nest Hello's visitor announcement enabled, too.
