Apple Announces Music Event for September 1

Apple has announced it will be holding a “special event” in San Francisco on September 1, and although the company has not announced an agenda, for the last several years the company has introduced used late-summer/early-autumn events to introduce additions to its iTunes application and service as well as new iPods for the end-of-year holiday buying season.

Apple’s invitations to the event feature an acoustic guitar with the soundhole modified to form the Apple logo, leaving little doubt a good portion of the announcement will focus on music.

Industry watchers expect Apple to announce new features for its iTunes music service as well as to update its iPod line—many expect Apple to announce a revamped iPod touch that brings the device up to the iPhone 4’s specs in terms of screen resolution, processing power, and even onboard cameras. Other possible announcements includes a revamped Apple TV—quite possibly running Apple’s iOS. Some Apple watchers speculate the company may also announce an update to its iLife application suite, which hasn’t seen an update since iLife ’09 as the company has focused on its mobile device offerings.

Hermès removes all leather Apple Watch bands from its site

Luxury goods retailer Hermès has removed its entire range of leather bands for the Apple Watch from its online store.

The change comes just two days before Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 9 and iPhone 15, and a week after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that Apple was set to “move away from leather on iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands” for environmental and sustainability reasons.

Apple M2 smokes the $6,000 Mac Pro and M1 MacBook Pro, leaked benchmark shows

Apple's new M2 chip appeared in a leaked Geekbench 5 test today. Found inside the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro, the latest iteration of Apple silicon certainly did a good job -- so much so that when compared to the Intel-based $6,000 Mac Pro, the M2 chip is actually the winner.

Based on the leaked benchmark, the M2 has proven itself to be up to 20% faster than the M1, thus surpassing Apple's own expectations for the chip. Aside from beating the high-end Mac Pro, the M2 also wins against the M1 MacBook Pro.

Apple just gave you a reason to ditch your Mac for an iPad

Apple has added support for multiple windows and external displays to iPadOS at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), bringing the iPad closer to the Mac than at any other point in its history. For many people, it could be the final push to abandon their laptop or desktop computer for good.

The key to this near-revolutionary change is a feature Apple calls Stage Manager, coming in iPadOS 16. When you open Stage Manager, your main open window is shown at the center of your display. On the left-hand side is a list of your other open apps, with multiple windows of the same app grouped together. You can tap an app in the sidebar to bring it to the front.
