Adobe is giving everybody some love. The company announced that, for a very limited time, it is extending its Photoshop Photography Program to all interested users until March 31. The program was originally launched in September to allow Photoshop, Lightroom, and Behance users to upgrade to Adobe’s new CC subscription model for the lower price of $9.99 a month (normally $20 a month for individual apps; $50 a month if you want the full suite), but it was only available to owners of Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3 (CS3) or higher. So, if you’ve wanted to get in on the discounted plan but were using Photoshop CS2 or older – or you weren’t a Photoshop user at all – now is your chance.
If you haven’t heard, Adobe is transitioning to a subscription model where users pay a monthly fee to access Adobe CC, or Creative Cloud; Adobe CS6 was the last version available as box software. Users download the software to their computers and, as long as they pay the fee, they have full use of the program. This particular offer gives access to Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5, Behance Pro (an online portfolio service), and 20GB of cloud storage. Note that if you do sign up, you are committed to at least a year, but there’s a refund if you change your mind within 30 days.
The March 31 expiration applies to all users, regardless of whether you owned a prior copy or not.
Adobe’s move to the cloud is meant to give more people access to what is usually expensive software to buy, as well as the most up-to-date version of the software. But in recent weeks Adobe hasn’t had such a great time in the news, as a security breach has compromised around 150 million user accounts. So, despite the special offer, there are probably many of you who are a bit cautious in signing up. No doubt that Adobe is working hard to fix its system.
