Canon is taking to Instagram with a new social advertising campaign to increase awareness about its recently introduced EOS M5 mirrorless camera. As the M5 is built with speed and easy sharing in mind, the #tagyoureit campaign will challenge participating influencers to complete spontaneous photo challenges. Actress and blogger Jamie Chung is heading the campaign, which includes 12 additional influencer photographers.
The participating photographers will tag and challenge each other with specific shots to get, and each challenged photographer will then have 24 hours to complete the task. In turn, they will task the next influencer with a new challenge. The general public can join in the fun by following any of the influencers and accepting public challenges, and may even receive special shoutouts for completing them.
The EOS M5 has been hailed as Canon’s first serious attempt at making a mirrorless camera for enthusiast shooters. It features the same, 24-megapixel sensor from the EOS 80D DSLR, Canon’s unique Dual Pixel autofocus, and a new, 2.36-million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF). The camera is also competitively priced at just $980 for the body only ($1,100 for the kit with 15-45mm lens).
But the features that matter most to the #tagyoureit campaign are likely the built-in Wi-Fi with NFC and Bluetooth capabilities. These features have become increasingly common on both DSLR and mirrorless cameras, and help remove the pain points between taking a photo and sharing it on social media. The EOS M5 can also shoot Full HD 1080/60p videos. This is a bit behind some competing models from the likes of Sony and Panasonic, which offer 4K video, but is suitable for Instagram.
The campaign is live now and will continue through the end of the year. You can participate by following the hashtag on Instagram.
