Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 Gets Pre-Recording

Casio garnered some oohs and ahhs in the digital camera world when it introduced its Exilim Pro EX-F1 at the beginning of the year, sporting a stunning 60 frames-per-second burst rate for still images along with a 1,200 frames per second high-speed movie mode (perfect for high-speed events and slow-motion replay).

Now, Casio has introduced a firmware update (v1.10) that, at first glance, seems to violate principles of cause and effect: the update adds a Prerecord Movie function that lets the camera start recording a movie five seconds before a user presses the Movie button. The idea is that users will be less likely to miss a crucial frame of an event they’re filming if the camera is actually filming and buffering 5 seconds of video all the time—if a user is a little late to the Movie button, no problem, the Prerecord Movie function has you covered. The function is compatible with all the camera’s movie modes, including the 300, 600, 1,200, and 1,600 fps movie modes and high-definition 1,920 by 1,080 full-definition mode.

The update is available on Casio’s English Web site now, and will appear on localized sites shortly.
