George Clooney in The American, re-imagined with selfie stick. Guns Replaced With Selfie Sticks
Look out, there is a new meme on the block and it’s causing all kinds of commotion. The new, and aptly named, Tumbler blog, Guns Replaced With Selfie Sticksdoes exactly what the name implies: Photoshopping out guns from notable movie moments, and replacing them with selfie sticks.

As with all such memes, some are better done than others, but the good ones really look as if the character is using the selfie stick and it’s beyond funny. The Terminator and John Connor obviously didn’t stop for a selfie in Terminator 2, nor did Kurt Russell’s character in The Hateful Eight, but a little time and Photoshop mastery sure allows for a convincing image.

GRWSS may have started the meme with its collection of movie stills, but the Internet has gobbled up this theme and now selfie sticks are finding themselves in movies and time periods we never thought possible. This meme closely resembles one from several years back that replaced guns with thumbs up — which proved very popular for a while as well.

Right now the selection on the blog is pretty limited, but you can find some great additions to the meme all over Twitter and Instagram. The blog has a new submissions form, so expect a ton of new additions as the meme circulates and people start working on their own renditions of GRWSS.

We imagine that this will not be the last time we see items in iconic movie scenes replaced with silly pop culture products, and we can only imagine what it will be next. Cigarettes or cigars replaced by vapes, perhaps? The collective imagination of the Internet is vastly superior that that of any one writer, and the possibilities seem endless, with many likely quite hilarious.
