Pentax is targeting adventure lovers with its new Optio WG-1 and Optio WG-1 GPS cameras, packing a 14 megapixel sensor, 5× optical zoom, and a 2.7-inch display into a case designed to stand up to the abuses of the great outdoors…or even the great back yard. The cameras can also capture high-definition 720p video at 30 frames per second, offer an HDMI port for sharing adventures on a big screen, and the WG-1 GPS comes with a GPS receiver that can automatically geotag impacts, making it easy for users to track and map photos.

Both new Optio WG-1 models are rugged: according to Pentax they’re waterproof up to 10 meters (33 feet), shockproof for falls up to five feet, and sport a new crushproof construction that should let them handle blows up to 220 pounds of force. The cameras can handle temperatures down to -10°C (about 14°F), and are dustproof. The cameras sport a 14 megapixel resolution, a 2.7-inch LCD display, and a 5× optical zoom; the WG-1s also pack convenience features for point-and-shoot photographers, like face-smile-and-blink detection and a self-portrait assist more. The cameras also sport a digital microscope mode with five macro LEDS for solid macro photography lighting, along with a detachable macro stand.

Pentax has also announced a new silver limited edition of its K-5 DSLR. The camera still sports a 16.3 megapixel resolution, and will match existing FA-Limited series lenses and new DA Limited Silver series lenses; the only real changes over the existing K-5s is a modified griup that’s thicker than the original and shock-resistant, scratch-poof glass over the LCD monitor and status panel. The silver limited edition K0-5 will be priced at $1,699.95 for a body-only kit, and should be available in April.
