Bag uses the same weave as ballistic body armor to protect camera gear

Repelica, the company designing bags and accessories designed to repel dirt and water, is now helping photographers keep their gear safe with a backpack designed with ballistic fabric. Launched on Tuesday, the latest addition to the line is simply called the Camera Bag.

Repelica, like the “repel” in the name suggests, designs bags from messengers to laptops with rugged, repellent material. The Camera Bag uses a 1680D Cordura Ballistic fabric exterior — a material that uses the same weave pattern as body armor. Cordura says the material offers twice as much durability over the typical nylon fabric. The bag’s zippers are designed for keeping out the weather too and a hidden rainfly can be pulled out in the toughest conditions. The base is constructed with Tarpaulin, designed for added durability when placing the bag on the ground.

On the inside, custom padded dividers organize photography gear, while a quick-access zipper at the top makes it easy to pull out just the camera and attached lens for a quick shot. A front compartment with mesh organizers stashes smaller accessories, while two more hidden front pockets expand the storage options.

The bag is designed to accommodate larger accessories too — a padded compartment keeps a laptop, up to 17 inches, tucked away. At the side, straps are designed to sling on a tripod.

Keeping in tune with the bag’s all-weather design, the straps are designed with air mesh for more comfort in the summer, with a chest buckle to keep the straps from slipping out of place. The back panel is compression molded and designed to fit with the curve of the back.

The entire bag measures 18 by 12 inches, with a depth of eight inches. The durable build puts the bag at a weight of four pounds before loading any gear inside.

Repelica’s Camera Bag is slated to list for $335, with availability in both black and olive green.
