This Twitter client is available now for all Windows Phone 7 devices. The application works across phones supporting Windows 7.

The application for Windows phones includes all the same features as those found on other smartphones. Timeline, suggested users, messages, lists and search can all be found within. You can sign up for an account right from the app as well. Twitter claims the app is optimized for speed and efficiency.

Twitter explained the unique interface running on Windows 7 phones in their blog post announcing the news, “The platform’s design and user interface, which is called Metro, is especially great for Twitter users because it’s simple and easy to use. It also provides a different way to look at information on a phone’s screen through Pivots, which are sort of like pages of the app. Pivots allow you to swipe left or right to view different categories or types of information within a single application. For example, in Twitter for Windows Phone, you can swipe left or right to move from your timeline to mentions to direct messages.”

Twitter worked with its development partner, IdentityMine, who helped to create the application. Twitter used an open source REST API library, Tweet Sharp, as the foundation for the app, and IdentityMine will release some significant improvements back into open source for everyone to use.

Twitter is the latest high profile application to be added to the recently released Windows 7 phone. Twitter was not one of Windows 7 pre-launch development partners that included Pandora, Seesmic, Foursquare and Netflix.

This news comes on the heels of an earlier announcement that the popular messaging platform recently announced it has more than doubled its headcount since February, recently hiring its 300th employee.

In a little over a decade, Twitter evolved from a simple microblogging platform to a communications powerhouse that now -- for better or worse -- charts the course of history. Twitter is used by governments, corporations, and press outlets, as well as gossipers and jokesters, to push influence, share cat pictures, and everything in between.

But no matter what you use Twitter for, if you want to use it on the go, you're going to need an app. While Twitter's official app is good (and included below), it isn't the only option available, and some apps offer features the original doesn't. Here are a few of our favorite Twitter clients for iOS and Android.

Twitter has revealed more details about a security incident that allowed attackers to discover phone numbers attached to numerous accounts on its platform.

The process involved exploiting a feature, which, when used in the intended way, lets new sign-ups find friends who are already on Twitter by inputting their phone number. The feature works for those who have enabled the “Let people who have your phone number find you on Twitter” option and who have a phone number associated with their Twitter account.
